Judgment against Brown for reckless conduct

This trial was all about accountability, responsibility, and allowing our grieving clients to tell their story. The defendant in this case had intentionally run a car off of the road in which my clients daughter was a passenger. The car hit a telephone pole and killed their daughter and her husband instantly. A defendants actions were a result of road rage, but he refused to ever explain why he did what he did. This Chase was not about the money, but the money judgment helped the family feel like their daughter meant something and was important. There was a lot of times spent talking about what a wonderful person she was, and how devastated this senseless act left her family after her death.

$1,300,000

Hit and run

This was a tragic case that started out as a hit and run. Our client was passing two vehicles(not illegal) that were traveling very slow when the middle vehicle also decided to pass. The middle vehicle hit our client, knocked him off the road, and then continued down the road without stopping. Later, the state patrol was able to identify damages to our client’s vehicle that would’ve been consistent with being hit by the wheel of a commercial box truck. The state patrol was able to track the exact truck down and prosecute the driver. We were able to secure a good settlement for our client to compensate for the injuries and damages to our client and his wife.

$1,350,000

Rear-end crash by commercial delivery truck

Our client was hit in the rear buy a commercial box truck while trying to turn left from Highway 225 in Murray County Georgia. The impact was so severe, it knocked the shoes off of one of the passengers. We were able to secure a structured settlement that was designed to provide a large lump sum payment and then annual payments basically for life.

$1,200,000

Viar v. Decatur County (federal civil rights case-stroke after jail abuse)

This case involved severe excessive force by a south GA police force that led to our client being unable to walk. This South Georgia county only had $500,000 of insurance, but we were able to secure a structured settlement to be paid out over many years that had a value to the client of $1.2 million. Our client was able to purchase a pick up truck he can drive with his hands and build a fully handicap accessible house. They settlement funds didn’t bring him back the use of his legs, but made his life much better with his disability, and gave him back much of his independence.

policy limits v. trucking collision

One evening after work, our clients mother was traveling home, and struck a modified pick up truck and trailer illegally carrying logs without proper licenses or insurance. Thankfully, we were able to locate additional insurance from other sources to provide for her three children. One child had special needs, and the other two were hoping to use some of the money to help them attend college.

Policy limits settlement of $1 million for a trip and fall case in Dekalb County, GA. Fractured neck requiring fusion surgery

We obtained this $1 million settlement for our client who had fallen down the stairs of a dark room while looking for a bathroom. Trip and fall cases with seven figure settlements are pretty rare, but our client had sustained serious injuries from the fall, which required neck surgery. We were able to convince the property owner, an Atlanta cemetery, to pay every penny of their liability insurance coverage. Our threat of litigation obviously scared the cemetery into paying out their insurance limits to avoid a trial with us.
