Car accidents caused by alcohol can lead to serious injuries

Choosing to drive while intoxicated can lead to dangerous situations. Drunk drivers often cause car accidents which result in serious injuries. A Georgia police officer was recently hurt in a collision involving an alleged drunk driver.

Few details on the crash have been released at this time. Authorities stated that the officer was working a special detail at a construction zone on Georgia 400 when the collision occurred. While patrolling, another driver slammed her car into the rear of the officer’s vehicle. Witnesses claim that her car was swerving in and out of lanes prior to the accident. Reports indicate that the other driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

A police spokesperson stated that following the collision, the officer attempted to get out and help the other driver but had difficulty walking. Both the officer and the other driver were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. The woman is now facing charges of driving under the influence, following too closely and violating the Georgia Move Over law.

When motorists suffer injuries in car accidents, they may be entitled to file a personal injury lawsuit in civil court against any party believed to be responsible. If the lawsuit successfully proves negligence on behalf of the defendant, the plaintiff can then receive monetary damages that can be used to help pay for medical bills and any other financial expenses related to the collision. Anyone injured in a car crash could consult an experienced Georgia personal injury attorney to learn more and to obtain assistance in filing a claim.
