Georgia car accidents: Fatal crash being investigated

Collisions can happen in a matter of seconds. This can result in serious injury and property damage for those involved. Car accidents that include semi-trucks may be even more devastating. One man is dead and a woman is severely injured after one such wreck in Georgia.

According to authorities, two cars were stopped on the side of a local highway. As a tractor-trailer approached, the driver attempted to make a left turn onto another road. For reasons that are still unclear, the big rig crashed into the two stopped vehicles, the impact forcing one into a ditch. Charges against the truck driver are pending as the Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the incident.

Multiple emergency rescue agencies responded to the crash. The driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, a passenger in his car, was seriously injured. She was taken to a local hospital via helicopter. No other injuries were reported.

Whether or not criminal charges are filed against the truck driver, the victim may still choose to file a personal injury claim in civil court against that driver and his or her employer. She may also be entitled to file a wrongful death claim on behalf of her spouse that was killed. When these types of claims successfully prove a driver negligent, those who file may receive monetary damages that can help pay for expenses such as medical bills or funeral costs. Anyone injured in car accidents in Georgia could speak with experienced attorneys for more information.
