Motor vehicle accidents claim lives all too often

When drivers are unaware of their surroundings, collisions are bound to happen. Georgia residents know that injuries can often accompany these kinds of motor vehicle accidents. This is particularly true when large trucks are involved. One woman was killed and 17 other people were injured in a multiple vehicle crash with a tractor-trailer.

According to officials, eight vehicles in total were involved in the collision on Georgia Highway 316. Police believe that the tractor-trailer failed to stop when the traffic ahead slowed. First responders discovered the car of the deceased victim on fire underneath the big rig.

Both the city and county police as well as the county fire department responded to the crash. Tragically, the woman whose car was found under the truck died at the scene. Officials stated that nine adults and eight children were injured in the wreck. Ten of those injured were taken to an area hospitals with eight in moderate condition and two in critical condition.

Though nothing can replace the deceased victim’s life, her family may find relief through filing a wrongful death claim against the truck driver and his or her employer. If their claim successfully proves negligence on behalf of the driver, they could receive monetary damages that could help pay for funeral costs or any other expenses related to the collision.
