Georgia car accidents may prove fatal for pedestrians

Tragically, a significant number of people die each year as a result of various traffic accidents. Though nothing can replace a lost loved one, families of those killed in car accidents could be entitled to seek legal action against parties believed responsible. One family may be examining these options after an elderly man was killed in a recent Georgia crash.

Authorities stated that the victim had just left his church when the collision occurred. As he attempted to cross the street headed south, a car traveling east struck him on its front passenger side. That driver then allegedly fled the scene.

Sadly, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver believed to be at fault was later found by law enforcement and arrested. She has been charged with first degree homicide by vehicle, hit and run, failure to report an accident, and failure to maintain lane. She has since been released from jail on a $30,200 bond.

Typically, when victims are injured in car accidents, they may file personal injury claims in civil court against any parties believed responsible. Similarly, when victims are killed in car crashes, their surviving families may be entitled to file wrongful death claims in civil court. These types of claims can provide plaintiffs monetary damages that can be used to help pay for medical bills, funeral costs and any other related expenses when successfully litigated. Experienced Georgia attorneys could aid anyone interested in these types of claims by providing information about any available options and assistance and advocacy throughout any legal proceedings.
